PresenceLearning Names Education Industry Veteran Kate Eberle Walker as CEO

SAN FRANCISCO – PresenceLearning, the leading provider of live online special education-related services to K-12 schools, named Kate Eberle Walker as CEO. Walker was most recently CEO of The Princeton Review, a leading provider of tutoring, test preparation and college admissions services.


Walker has more than 20 years of experience leading, advising, acquiring and investing in education companies. As CEO of The Princeton Review and its subsidiary Tutor.com, she built a scaled organization that leveraged technology to deliver high quality educational outcomes for students. Prior to that, Walker managed M&A and venture investments for Kaplan, Inc., a large and diversified global education company. She actively mentors early stage EdTech companies and supports non-profit education initiatives. Walker began her career as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and received her MBA from Harvard Business School.

The API Economy

SaaS adoption has proliferated across nearly every industry vertical and business function to the point where it is now nearly ubiquitous throughout the economy. This has created multiple market opportunities for businesses utilizing an “API-first” strategy, whereby they offer new products or services via API that complement existing SaaS applications or they use API technology to break down data silos and connect what would otherwise be disparate data sets. A handful of first-movers have capitalized on a subset of these opportunities in both products & services (e.g., Twilio in voice & text, Stripe in payments) and data aggregation (e.g., MuleSoft for enterprises, Plaid for FinTech / financial institutions). We believe this dynamic is still in its early days and that there will be many future opportunities for growth investors with strong SaaS experience to partner with these businesses.
